Newry, Mourne and Down District Council: dog rules
Council-wide dog rules, beaches and named places
We've only partly added this council's dog rules. Check the source for the full order.
Partly added
- Northern Ireland law: dogs must be on a lead in pedestrianised streets and anywhere livestock are present. Other lead and no-dog areas come from each council's dog control orders.
- Council byelaws require leads in some parks, open spaces and on promenades. Follow signs.
- Pick up and carry bags. £80 fixed penalty.
Checked October 2026.
Assistance dogs: most council dog orders and beach bans exempt assistance dogs, such as guide and hearing dogs. Check the source if you are unsure.
